You can find all sorts of fun things to decorate for the season, including this pumpkin I picked up at Michael's. It was kraft-colored - just like this paper mache one - when I bought it, but it only took about an hour's worth of effort decorate.
Well, actually an hour and about 10 minutes. I'd picked up a package of Martha Stewart spiderweb tissue paper last year and wanted to use that on the pumpkin. However, I couldn't decide which paper to use. So I made a small sample board from a scrap of cardboard to test out my options.
You can see I tried out both the light ivory and black craft paint and all three colors of tissue paper. In the end I went with a cream basecoat, mostly because the white of the tissue paper didn't disappear when it was adhered to the cardboard. Disappointing, but you gotta work with what ya got sometimes.
Here's what I used. The craft pumpkins aren't showing online, but I found something close here. Full disclosure: these are affiliate links, and I would recieve a small commission if you decide to purchase through them. Any money I receive just helps me offset the cost of this blog
