My brother's family gave us an Elf on the Shelf years ago, but I didn't really get the idea and we didn't really use it. We looked at it every year when we put up the decorations, but that's as far as we got.
Until a couple of years ago, when we all did Christmas at my parents' house. They brought their elf with them and my kids got a taste - and remembered that we had one, too. Well, the next year they demanded their elf. So we got it out of the box and they placed him in the tree. Where he sat.
The next year, the same thing.
However, this past year I've noticed lots of clever elf on the shelf ideas on Pinterest. And started collecting them. This year I decided that things were going to change.
So our elf is on the move. The kids are enjoying it, and are in on the game. It's too late for them to buy into the story, but we can have a fun time with our elf.
The first morning, the elf got into their pokemon cards....
And then the elf got into Rachel's room and her drawing kit....
Rachel thought Thomas needed a surprise when he came back from his Boy Scout trip yesterday. So the elf was waiting for him in bed.
This morning, the elf decided that bow ties were cool, and hung out in the mini tree, under the fez that Thomas placed there.
